I need to put SOME EXTRA GROUT in my bathroom around the BATHTUB area…?
i just had my bathroom remodeled a month ago, but i think i need to re-grout some areas around my bathub so that water soes not go into the walls.
how do i grout those lightly grouted areas by myself??
i know i have to go to home depot and buy a small tub of matching color grout. but what else do i need? i metal scraper thingy??
and then how do i grout it myself?
or do i just buy some of that special tape to tape around the bathub area instead of the grout?
what is the best way to do it myself? thank you!!!!!!!!!
i have marble tiles by the way.
the caulking sounds interesting espceially the silicone one cause i need something that will keep water out of the walls.

My husbands knows how to do tile work so from experience of what I’ve seen him do..Yes you have to buy the same color grout..You do know that you mix it with water right? I know you need a special type of spatula I don’t know the correct name for it..But what exactly are you doing are you removing all of the tiles or just the grout itself? Because if you remove everything then you also need spacers and a special type of cement that makes the tiles stick to the concrete…I hope I’ve helped somewhat..
Goodness! You just had the job done a month ago and now you need to fix it?? Whoever did the job didn’t do it very well. I suggest that you call him back and tell him to finish it properly. We can easily explain what to do and how to do it (very simple job), but matching the exact color grout can be tricky if you don’t know what brand was used originally. DO NOT use tape!! You will turn a simple problem into a major headache. If you cannot get him to return, the best answer, without seeing your tub, is to remove all the loose caulk (you can use a small razor and a grout tool) and then replace it (after you clean and dry the groove thoroughly) with a good quality waterproof silicone caulk- GE makes an excellent one for less that $5 a small tube. If you are uncomfortable doing this yourself, call a friend who has done this before. They’ll be glad to help you fix this.
I have re-grouted the fool of any bathroom without ripping out the existing grout. Just put another layer on. In corners just apply a silicone caulk not any more grout. It will last longer and not discolor. Try a spray on sealer when you are done BUT make sure you can use it with Granite or marble A LOT of things including cleaning products should no be applied to them
It sounds like you are not too sure of yourself to do this job. I would suggest you buy the stick on tape and apply it instead of trying to grout. If you take my advice, be sure to clean the area very good before applying this tape. By the way, the tape is real easy and can be done in less than an hour. GOOD LUCK!
the grout needs to be sealed with a grout sealer after the grout has cured or dried. The sealer will help keep the moisture from getting behild the tiles.the edge around the bottom of the tub will need a bead of silicone aroud it .Do not use latex calk because it will fail after awhile.Use a grout float to push the grout into the cracks or you can use your finger if it is just a small area.Good luck
Buy a grout knife to get out as much of the existing grout as you can. Buy a bag of grout that matches your existing grout and follow the directions. It is much easier than you think, you’ll do fine. You will need to buy a couple small tools however.
Hon, I think you need waterproof caulk, not grout, unless you got ceramic tiles or something… but most remodeling involves plastic nowadays.
Don’t grout if you don’t know what you are doing, it’s somewhat complicated!
If it is indeed caulk you need, that’s not too hard…. keep your finger wet as you apply it.
just get some clear caulking preferably silicone.sounds like you just need to caulk. grout is hard to do. but not impossible. id have to see it myself to say for sure what you need. they sell bathtub and toilet caulking at home depot, lowes, walmart. take a pick.
If you hired this work done call the person that did the work and have them fix it, after just a month this shouldn’t have happen. if they refuse , call the Better Business Bureau
Get the following
1. Grout
2. Grout remover
Make sure that the grout is water proof.
1. Clean away the grout that is already there (where you want to remove it.
2. Grout the area
3. Use finger and smooth it out
4. Let it dry
5. Stand back and admire you job well done.
