Installing a Bathtub

Learn how to install a bathtub and bathtub “surround” for the walls.

Do you own your home? If that’s the case, if there was just one thing you could change about your bathroom, what would it be? There’s a good chance that like most people, you would want to change the bathtub. Since the bathtub is such an integral aspect of your bathroom, a really nice one can positively affect the look of your bathroom. If you really want to upgrade the bathroom, then bite the bullet and get that new tub. It’s really not as hard of a remodeling project as it seems.

The first thing to determine once you have decided to start the remodel is the budget; how much? If you are also remodeling the rest of your bathroom, it is important that you not only focus on the cost of a new bathtub, but also the cost of your other supplies. If you mistakenly spend too much on a new bathtub, the rest of your bathroom remodeling plans could suffer. Also, you will likely find that having a bathtub limit or budget is the best way to save time while shopping. Knowing how much money is too much to spend will prevent you from partaking in wasteful activities like browsing through bathtubs you can’t afford to begin with.

The budget also plays a part in how your new bathtub will be installed.  If you are planning on having a professional install your new bathtub for you, you will need to keep the extra costs in mind. Although you may want to avoid paying a professional contractor, you may need to. There are a number of bathroom contractors who specialize in replacing bathtubs. In fact, some, literally, just place a new bathtub right over the old one.  It may be possible for you to do this yourself, but, in most cases, you will find that a professional contactor could have your new bathtub installed in as little as a few hours.

Regardless of whether you choose to install your own bathtub or have a professional do it for you, you will need to find a new bathtub to purchase.  If you are looking to have your old bathtub completely removed, you will likely find that you have more options.  When a new bathtub replaces an old bathtub, the tubs need to be about the same size or style. Therefore, if you are remodeling your bathroom with the hopes of getting a “new,” bathroom, you may be looking for something different.  Luckily for you, you still have an unlimited number of options.

The most popular bathtubs in the US are usually the standard tubs or the traditional tubs. These bathtubs are often installed right to the wall or placed in a corner, and they usually sit directly on the floor.  The best characteristic about these tubs is their affordability.  You can purchase a traditional bathtub for as low as two hundred dollars.

If you are looking for comfort, instead of price, you may want to look into spa-like bathtubs or even massage bathtubs. These bathtubs, as you may assume, cost more than most others.  Many massage bathtubs or spa-like bath tubs retail for around one or two thousand dollars.  If you are looking for a trendy, stylish bathtub, you may prefer to own a freestanding bathtub. Freestanding bathtubs can cost as low as five hundred dollars, but they can also reach into the thousands.

Once you have decided which type of bathtub you would like to purchase, you will need to decide on a particular tub. Perhaps, the best way to do this is to start your shopping. You may find it easier to make a decision when you can see bathtub displays set up.  For a wide selection of bathtubs, including displays, you are advised to checkout one of your local home improvement stores.

Choosing Bathroom Space Savers

Usually small bathrooms can use a bathroom space saver, but they are also very applicable to larger rooms of the house. These space savers come in any and every imaginable design and style that can work with just about any bathroom decorating idea you can come up with. But finding just the right bathroom space saver for your needs can still be a challenge.

Remember that it is wise to choose products for your home that have proven their longevity. This aspect is even more important when it comes to your bathroom and kitchen. These two rooms are the most important areas when it comes to the value of your home. Items like a bathroom space saver should be made of durable quality material.

I learned the hard way about choosing price over value. I bought a cheap bathroom space saver that needed to be replaced within a matter of months. Ironically, the bath furniture wasn’t waterproof. Since I have a smaller bath the item got a few splashes of water on it from time to time.

The splashes of water that were not immediately addressed wound up working their way under the paint. The moisture warped the bathroom space saver and it also removed some of the paint. That astounded me because I assumed that bath furniture would naturally be designed to withstand water especially considering the area.

The warped bathroom space saver wound up in a heap on a pile of wood used for our annual bonfire. Never, under any circumstances, buy bathroom furniture that is made out of pressed board and is not sealed with a water-resistant paint or stain. The cheap item wound up being a complete waste of money.

The good thing about the whole experience is that I got an opportunity to explore other options in this product. Instead of choosing a floor unit, we chose a bathroom space saver that mounts to the wall. I love the new product and I love the extra floor space.

Whether you choose a bathroom space saver that hangs on the wall or whether you choose an item that sits on the floor you have a lot of choices to make. Items that mount to the wall come in an array of styles and designs and floor models can either sit conveniently above the commode or they can be free-standing.

Deciding which unit would be the best for our home did take a little while but it was well worth the wait. If you are willing to put in a little time and invest a little money you can find the perfect bathroom space saver for your home.
