So, I am thinking about living on a boat in a few years, and my girlfriend wants to as well, but only if there is a bathtub. We are looking at a 35 – 45 foot sailboat, and since I have yet to see a boat that size with an actual bathtub, I was wondering if A) there were any out there, and B), if not, would it be possible to re-model and install one myself (side note, I am studying naval architecture, so designing it wouldn’t be a problem, but since I am only a second year student, I am not sure how yet.) Also, I am not asking as to whether this is a ‘good idea’, or if it is ‘practical’ – just asking if it is possible, and how.

This is mostly just for fun right now, but it could be a serious project in the near-to -semi-distant future.

Thanks!

Removing old shower to install tub?

We have an old small shower that we want to take out and install a bathtub. We know that we will need a plumber to move the plumbing over one wall, the current knobs and shower head shoot north to south and need to go east to west. The drain should be pretty close, may need to move a bit front or back. If I bought materials and took out the old shower, how much would a plumber charge to hook up the tub for us? We will tile, caulk, etc.

Thanks.

Installing Bathtub Hand-Held Shower Head

“Tricks That Catch Chicks” (# 1.) Hand-Held Shower Head with 72″ (6 foot long) extension hose and is really easy to install, the only tool used was a rubber-band, instead of a pipe-wrench. Jerome Gipson uses his j_the_plumber skills to complete the entire job in less than 10 minutes at a cost of about 40 bucks. The 6 foot hose will make cleaning the bathtub and shower stall a breeze. The best investment for any single guy wanting to turn a big liability into an asset for catching chicks. www.tricksthatcatchchicks.com

Bathtub Installed Wrong

www.magicmoulding.com / Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much you pay a contractor to renovate your bathroom. If they don’t get the basics right, you are the one faced with a lifetime of disappointment. This bathroom was installed without leveling the tub and now extra care has to be taken whenever its used. This is the most common mistake made installing a tub, so we’ve changed the angle of our Shower Splash Guard from 90 degrees to an overlapping design to allow for these mistakes.

I need to know how much it costs to have a bathtub installed in my bathroom from Lowes.

A few months ago my mom fell down while getting out of the bathtub. This worried me. She gets around pretty good except for a cane to walk. My dad is healthy and has no problems of moving around.

They are on vacation and I would like to remodel the bathroom for my mom’s saftey while they are on vacation. It has a standard tub, standard toilet, and pedistal sink. I don’t want to change it too drastically because I am sure my dad would be really mad. Any ideas on remodeling the bathroom for the elder?

Learn how to install a bathtub and shower surround with tile. Ceramic tile is great for shower and bathtub walls because it can stand up to the constant moisture that showers receive. In this video you will learn the steps to properly install ceramic tile in a tub and shower space. For more information, visit www.homedepot.com

I am remodeling the bathroom and the drain for the new bathtub sits right over a floor joist. How do I go about getting the pipe in the proper position? The bathroom is fairly small (7′x8′), so we really do not have any option to move the tub. The joists are 2"x10". Is it ok to remove some of the top of the joist if the bottom 2/3rds is reinforced withplywood or like material? Any suggestions??

How to install a larger bathtub?

Well my wife and I just moved into a new house and she wants to install a bigger bathtub in the master bathroom. She said she doesn’t need it to be a jacuzzi tub just that she wants a larger tub. She wants me to do it. I’m a mechanic and I’m usually quite the handyman but I’m assuming that installing a bathtub is probably a pretty big job. Can anyone explain to me the way to do it or know of any sites that explain it so I can decide if this is too big of a job for me?

Bathroom remodeling?

Hi there!
This is my first time so here I go…
My husband and I are hoping to update our bathroom. We want to do it ourselves to save money. If we were to retile the floors and walls, replace our bathtub and add shower (we only have the tub now), replace toilet and sink (it’s a pedestal sink now), and light fixtures. What would be the order in which to tackle these projects? Our home is old and I don’t the walls are dry wall.
I’d appreciate any help you can give us. Thanks!!!

how much does it cost to install a bathtub?

we’re buying a house and the previous owners took out the bathtub and put a stand in shower. i was just wondering how much it would cost to re-install the bathtub professionally not including the price of the bath tub

Do you own your home? If that’s the case, if there was just one thing you could change about your bathroom, what would it be? There’s a good chance that like most people, you would want to change the bathtub. Since the bathtub is such an integral aspect of your bathroom, a really nice one can positively affect the look of your bathroom. If you really want to upgrade the bathroom, then bite the bullet and get that new tub. It’s really not as hard of a remodeling project as it seems.

The first thing to determine once you have decided to start the remodel is the budget; how much? If you are also remodeling the rest of your bathroom, it is important that you not only focus on the cost of a new bathtub, but also the cost of your other supplies. If you mistakenly spend too much on a new bathtub, the rest of your bathroom remodeling plans could suffer. Also, you will likely find that having a bathtub limit or budget is the best way to save time while shopping. Knowing how much money is too much to spend will prevent you from partaking in wasteful activities like browsing through bathtubs you can’t afford to begin with.

The budget also plays a part in how your new bathtub will be installed.  If you are planning on having a professional install your new bathtub for you, you will need to keep the extra costs in mind. Although you may want to avoid paying a professional contractor, you may need to. There are a number of bathroom contractors who specialize in replacing bathtubs. In fact, some, literally, just place a new bathtub right over the old one.  It may be possible for you to do this yourself, but, in most cases, you will find that a professional contactor could have your new bathtub installed in as little as a few hours.

Regardless of whether you choose to install your own bathtub or have a professional do it for you, you will need to find a new bathtub to purchase.  If you are looking to have your old bathtub completely removed, you will likely find that you have more options.  When a new bathtub replaces an old bathtub, the tubs need to be about the same size or style. Therefore, if you are remodeling your bathroom with the hopes of getting a “new,” bathroom, you may be looking for something different.  Luckily for you, you still have an unlimited number of options.

The most popular bathtubs in the US are usually the standard tubs or the traditional tubs. These bathtubs are often installed right to the wall or placed in a corner, and they usually sit directly on the floor.  The best characteristic about these tubs is their affordability.  You can purchase a traditional bathtub for as low as two hundred dollars.

If you are looking for comfort, instead of price, you may want to look into spa-like bathtubs or even massage bathtubs. These bathtubs, as you may assume, cost more than most others.  Many massage bathtubs or spa-like bath tubs retail for around one or two thousand dollars.  If you are looking for a trendy, stylish bathtub, you may prefer to own a freestanding bathtub. Freestanding bathtubs can cost as low as five hundred dollars, but they can also reach into the thousands.

Once you have decided which type of bathtub you would like to purchase, you will need to decide on a particular tub. Perhaps, the best way to do this is to start your shopping. You may find it easier to make a decision when you can see bathtub displays set up.  For a wide selection of bathtubs, including displays, you are advised to checkout one of your local home improvement stores.
