Is Ceramic tile or marble better for bathroom?

I am remodeling the bathroom in master bedroom. Is ceramic tile or marble better for bathroom floor and walls of the shower stand? The bathroom size is 70 square feet and the house is in California in case the answer is regional.

I have the ugliest bathroom ever. My tub, toilet, and sink are blue. My walls are purple and bright. My vanity looks like it stepped out of the 80′s and my floor is that ugly fake wood. Heres my questions
*how much will it costs to remodel ( i want to gut it and replace everything. also i want to add shelves for more storage.)
*how long will it usually take
*where can i shop to save on costs
*last my bathroom is small. I want to paint the walls like a cream/tan color. put it a dark wood vanity and have the traditional white sink, toilet, and tub. I want to add marble looking tile on the floors and around the tub for back splash instead of having the normal porcelin shower thing on wall around tub(not sure what that thing is called sorry). And i want a lght tan shower curtain and rug. The mirror i want to match with the dark wood vanity. Do u think that will be ok or too many nuetral colors for such a small space. I plan on adding recess lighting also to brighten it up and some flowers and oil lamp on the shelves to add color. Any suggestions would be appreciated thx
maybe instead of marble looking tile i will uses tan stone looking tile. idk i need suggestions.. what do u guys think

I am planning a bathroom remodel and some friends told me not to do the wainscoat around the room because it would "automatically date" the room. It’s not like I am adding flocked or metalic wallpaper? Is it true that wainscosting in a bathroom gives it a dated look? I thought it would look very upscale.
I was thinking of using tumbled marble or some other "matte" finish tile with a horizontal detail near the top and a finished edge, bullnosed or something.

Remodeling Bathroom…?

What kind of tiles are good to use for bathroom walls and floor? I am trying to stay away from marble. I appreciate a more natural earthy looks. I like the sandstone but I am not sure if it’s good to put that in the bathroom, considering cleaning and water.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have heard that marble looks the best but it is very high maintenance

This is gonna be a long one, so bear with me…

I just moved into a new apartment that I happen to be the very first tenant of. Lucky me, right? Well, not totally. Among the 10′s of other problems I’ve come across…after I shower, there’s a lake of water on the bathroom floor that I don’t know how to prevent.

Here’s what’s happening…The bathroom has a ton of marble, the floor, and the walls where a shower/bath enclosure would normally be are all marble. When the bathtub was installed, they left about 3" between the wall with the faucet and the tub. There’s about 1-2" on the side, and maybe 10-12" in the back. The tub and the walls are connected by more marble which is all sealed and is fine…but it sits about half an inch below the height of the tub. So, the water that hits the walls and runs down, all collects in this little area and drains out around the tub and onto my floor.

So, my question is: Is there any way of preventing this, short of putting up another shower curtain along the walls? I’m sure someone else has run into this problem…do they make some kind of product that deflects the water straight into the tub or something?

Thanks!
wanna: It’s not that the shower head is pointed towards the wall, it’s just the water that bounces off your body when it hits you. I already pointed it pretty far over and it’s lessened the amount of water that collects, but it’s still a lot.

db: Yes, of course I have a landlord and he is aware of the numerous other things that plague this apartment. But, when he stopped by to check those things out, the gas had not been turned on yet, so I hadn’t used the shower yet and was unaware of this particular issue. I’m not sure anything can even be done by him about it without having to rip apart the bathroom…

The 2 colors are a biscuit which is like a light beige with speckles in it or like a white marble. We think the white will look contempory and clean on the espresso cabinets but we like the beige too. Any suggestions with which one you think would look nicer?
